Name of Layout Denver Rio Grande Western

A HOn3 layout based on Rio Grande Southern but with an idea that it was taken over by the DRGW and survived. A mixture of rolling stock survives. The layout occupies a 15 feet by 8 ft area in a small basement under the house.
The layout is L shaped girder construction, with Shinohara track and Tortoise point motors. The rock molds are all hand made and some are over a foot in length often with caps so that they can “hang” in place. Backdrops are from Backdrop Warehouse. The layout has taken a long while to build and would be some twenty years old. It was given a strong re invigoration with Blackstone entering the market.

All locos are DCC ready with sound and I use an NCE system. It wasn’t that much of a problem converting from DC to DCC though I did find the Shinohara turnouts a problem.

I am now planning a new layout in a purpose built room at our new home. I hope to be able to work on both layouts as this layout is about 70 per cent complete. I am hoping the lure of a new beginning doesn’t distract me. It probably will!
