Name of Layout Dons Layout

The photo below on the left shows the first backdrops ordered from Backdrop Warehouse in 2005. Two 36" x 12' backdrops. Backdrops are hung on 3 foot wide hardboard, no glue, stapled on the back to a wooden frame. The exception is the inside curve where I used spray adhesive to attach the media to the hardboard. The top is 12" inch hardboard painted flat black. I think the black really sets off the backdrops. The photo on the right shows trains crossing the Chung River. Little odd to see the Hellgate bridge in the middle of the Rockys, but then it is my layout.

The left photo shows the south end of the layout. If you look closely, you can see a line in the backdrop where I created a hidden door. This door is necessary should I ever have to replace my furnace! The photo on the right shows the backdrops that were added in 2006 and 2007. This side of the layout represents a flatter area, with rural landscapes. The top is Kellogg Yard with the mainline running below. Skirting has been added to the table since this photo was taken.

Layout Size 900 sq ft
Era & Place Lionel - postwar and modern
Control type TMCC
Prototype Great Northern
The left and right photos are close ups of the village of Carrollton. The buildings are set in front of a backdrop mounted on an inside curve. This time I used rubber cement. Rubber cement was much easier to work with. At the bottom is a photo of an intermodal yard set in front of a rural town scene.
